Focus on….Fabric Frieze

I’m adding a new fabric shop to the Big List of UK Fabric shops today.

Fabric Frieze logo

I came across The Fabric Frieze when I was searching for yardage from Kate Spain’s Good Fortune collection in UK shops. It was pretty tough to track down (lots of places have charm packs, layer cakes, jelly rolls, but I wanted 1/2 metre for a commission..) but I eventually found it here, along with some of the other prints from that collection.

The Fabric Frieze is an Ebay store with an excellent extensive range of fabrics from Moda, Riley Blake, Robert Kaufman, Rowan and more. There are some lovely bundles, as well as FQs and yardage available. Prices are in the usual ball park of around £3 per FQ, and delivery charges are good for Ebay, with discounts when you buy more than one item (you just need to request a total to get the reduction). In addition to the wide range of Moda designers in stock, they also carry a range of Moda solids, and they sell wool rich felt too (which reminds me to add them to my Felt Buying Guide).  I’ve looked at their feedback, and it looks excellent – I was certainly impressed with the speedy delivery time – so it seems they are  a worthy addition to the list.

News, Sales and Giveaways

A 5am start plus a LARGE Easter lunch have resulted in a very somnolent afternoon, so many apologies if I miss stuff today…

The Croft Mill Spring Catalogue is now out and available to read online – it’s worth a look even if you don’t sew, someone at Croft Mill has a wonderful sense of humour. If I did more dressmaking then I would be a regular at Croft Mill for sure, they have such lovely fabrics – I love this fabulous vintage rayon, for example.

Lovely Luella from My Fabric House has been in touch to tell me about all the lovely new things they have in stock just now (fabric shop owners, feel free to drop me an email if you want a mention – always happy to help..).  I am most taken with these gorgeous spring-has-sprung bundles:

Those purples! The polka dots!

they also have some adorable iron-on applique motifs, and lots of sweet new ribbons too.

Quite a few shops seem to be having remnant sales just now. Fabric with Love have some bargain remnants left now that their stock take is nearly done, and I was very happy to pick up a parcel of bargains in the Seamstar remnant sale earlier in the week – there’s still some lovely stuff left, including dinky little fabric scrap packs. Seamstar are also having a Spring Sale – lots of good stuff here, including my favourite Essential Stripes fabric at just £3.95 per half metre:

Coast and Country Crafts and Quilts have offers on some Tilda fabrics just now (you need to click through to pages 2-3 to see them). They also have quilt patterns on offer too.

If you have quilt tops all ready to be quilted then you need to know about the 3m (and full bolt if you are really keen!) deals on wadding over at Doughty’s.

Oakshott Fabrics are offering free shipping with purchases over £25 (£35 in Europe and £75 for rest of world) made before 10 April. You just need to use the code Easter at checkout. Maybe it’s time to take advantage of the special offer on this gorgeous Gemini quilt kit designed by Janine Burke. Gives me an excuse to post a pic of it anyway:

My lovely friends at the The Felted Rainbow are having an Easter Egg hunt. You just have to find 5 eggs to be in with a chance of winning one of these bundles of 34 sheets of recycled felt:

And finally (because I really need to go and supervise the children’s tea and bath – although I am not sure how hungry they will be after the quantify of chocolate they have eaten today, I don’t know…), The Sewing Directory are having a lovely Makower fabric giveaway to celebrate 2000 likers on Facebook. Huge congratulations to Fiona, Beth and the gang on reaching another fantastic milestone.

Weekly UK fabric news update

Focus on…. Emma’s Fabric Studio

I’m not really sure how I’ve missed Emma’s Fabric Studio. I hadn’t spotted the shop at all before last week, and then, in a rather synchronicitous occurrence, I was looking for a hard-to-find Robert Kaufman fabric, and spotted it just here, and a couple of days later, Emma got in touch to introduce herself. Spooky!

I feel a slight blow to my pride as fount of all knowledge on fabric shops (!) that I’ve missed Emma up to now (how? She has 4,000+ likers on her Facebook page!!), because she has a great shop, with lots of fun fabrics from manufacturers Riley Blake Designs, Robert Kaufman and Michael Miller, and all those extras that are so important, such as buttons, wadding, trims and binding. Emma takes particular pride in her stock of fabric bundles (which she says are all named, like Mulberry bags), and I’m not surprised, they look just great.

The quality of the images in the shop are just fantastic (a lesson for us all in pretty product photography!) and in the bundle section, there’s a pic of each fabric in the bundle, as well as the bundle itself – which is really going the extra mile for us customers. Emma also places great importance on customer service – and is happy for people to phone to talk about their requirements, colour matches or any specific questions they might have.

Payments are processed with Paypal (or the Paypal credit/debit card facility) and postage is calculated by the weight of your purchase. Here are the other links you need if you want to keep up with shop news:

Emma is currently having a giveaway on Facebook to celebrate reaching 4000 likers, so if somehow you’ve been as lax as me and failed to find them before, now is the time to take a look.

That’s it for me tonight – it’s time for my supper and a dry martini mixed by dear husband. If you’re here because you were expecting a Focus on… Buying Linen, then many apologies, it’ll be with you next week (it’s taking me longer to write than I thought!).

Fugly Fabric Party Swap

Swap Parcels all gone now – thanks so much everyone!  Will be in touch!

So it’s Fugly Fabric Party Swap Time… if you haven’t caught up with this before you can read all about it here on Lucy’s blog.

Charm About You

I’ve been looking forward to this! It’s definitely therapeutic to go through your stash and identify those fabrics that you just know you’re never going to use. Some of these I have been feeling guilty about for some time…

Yesterday I had people complaining that my fabrics weren’t Fugly enough. Cheeky things – I can’t help it if I have exceptional taste.. haha!  Is this any better for you?

Fuglies to give away

Swap Parcels all gone now – thanks so much everyone!  Will be in touch!

This is one of 5 packs of scraps I’ve put together.. I am happy to swap for another pack of scraps, or a couple of nasty FQs if you like! I reckon there is about 2 FQs worth of fabric in each pack and they’re all pretty much the same, content-wise, as the ones pictured here (you wont get any nice suprises!).

Just leave a comment if you’d like to swap (I’ll give priority to anyone who has already volunteered). And don’t forget to check out Lucy’s Fugly Fabric Link Party to find lots of other people who are hosting Fugly Fabric giveaways and swaps.
