Bookish ATCs with a hint of spring

So, just in time for the closing date of the 3rd Very Berry ATC swap, I got mine finished:
ATC 3 by me
I used lots of little appliqued bits of Liberty and linen to create the books on my ATC, with a bit of felt to add extra depth. I printed the ‘quote’ fabric using this method – great fun! The printed fabric says ‘She is too fond of books and she has addled her brain’. Which I think my mum would have said about me when I was a girl… The quote is from Louisa May Alcott, one of my all-time favourite writers. I must have read Little Women, Good Wives, Little Men & Jo’s Boys a dozen times each (you can see what my mum was getting at).

I dug out my copy of Little Women to do a little bit of photo staging, and found the following inside:

Little Women inscriptions

I think I was about 10 when I wrote these little bits… clearly I was a huge fan!

Speaking of big fans – my boys lovedThe Cat in the Hat when they were little ones, so we were really delighted to receive this awesome card from Simi, my swap partner.

Cat in the Hat from Simi

I love the fabulous machine embroidery that Simi has done here – it looks amazing. But my favourite bit is that bit of red and white fabric down the left hand edge which is exactly like the book cover design. Love it!

And as an extra little bonus I got an illegal card from Paula… Illegal because it’s not quite the right size for an ATC, so I had to confiscate it…

What a beautiful piece of spring sunshine!

Hope everyone else has enjoyed this swap as much as I have. And if you missed out this time, don’t worry, the Very Berry ATC swap round 4 will be along in the summer.

  1. Oh my ! ATC Inspector! ?? I shall have to be most accurate! Loved it as usual – looking forward to the next one! Cat in the Hat is a triumph as is the contraband!

  2. These are just delightful. As a book lover I would have adored receiving something like this. It is fun to see how creative people can be.

  3. Thanks so much for organising the swap again Ali, I thoroughly enjoyed it and got carried away by making 2 ATCs – although it is always nice to have 2 to choose from when it comes time to send it!

I really love seeing all the different designs and translations of the themes that people come up with, so it is such a shame that the flickr group isn’t as widely used as it could be – there seemed to be lots of people on the sent / received list who hadn’t posted pix. There probably isn’t much you can do about that, but it IS a shame…

    Thanks again for organising! 🙂

  4. Your books are adorable, and I just love the Hat in the Cat. The stitchwork on that really is fabulous. Thanks for organising another great ATC swap.

  5. Love your wee book creation 🙂 I have to say I wasn’t a Little Women fan, they weren’t really adventurous for me, I was burying my head in the Swallows and Amazons books 😀

  6. Wow, all three are great but my favourite has to be The Cat in The Hat… It’s a lifetime favourite book here too with my boys… In fact we might need to read it (again) at bedtime tonight!!

  7. HI Ali : I don’t know why I didn’t pick books!! I adored Little Women, Jo’s Boys so very much too and identify with your mums likely comment. Your ATC is amazing, I can’t wait to try another one and to improve on my design.

  8. Three absolutely beautiful ATC’s, love the quote fabric you used, Simi’s ATC is fabulous, I love Dr Seuss. Love your abuse of power in confiscating that gorgeous but highly illegal card!

We always love reading your comments... go ahead, say hello!
