Fearful symmetry!

I’ve been cutting and snipping, measuring and aligning… and produced this crazily symmetrical wallet:

Tangerine Trees Wallet

When my customer chose this amazing print – Nouveau Trees from Amy Butler’s Midwest Modern collection – for her commission wallet, I knew that only totally accurate positioning and cutting would do. It was a challenge, let me tell you…

The scary symmetry is on the inside too:

Can you tell how proud I am…?! With many thanks, as usual, for this wonderful wallet tutorial from Confessions of a Fabricaholic.

I have to say that Midwest Modern is probably still my favourite Amy Butler collection, it was quite nice to discover I could still get hold of bits of it at The Cotton Patch. Are you an Amy Butler fan? I find some of her patterns tough to work with, but they can be very rewarding.

  1. Wow, that’s stunning! I’ve got you on my bloglovin and your post stood out by a long mile! Well done, you should be very pleased with yourself methinks!!!

  2. That is amazing Ali – there’s clearly a career as a painter/decorator lining up really fiddly wallpapers waiting for you! I love Amy Butler fabric but can’t always see how they work for scrappy patchwork which I love. I have noticed however how many Butler inspired prints seem to be creeping into clothing lines. Have a look at the Great Plains spring summer range to see what I mean!

    1. Oh god no, couldn’t cope with the glue… Yes, I agree about Amy Butler and scrappy… and re Great Plains… big swirly maxi-dresses ahoy. Shame I am a small round person, lol.

  3. OMG! If this is for who I think it is then I know that person is MIGHTILY DELIGHTED!!!!! And if you have had called this blog post PERFECT SYMMETRY I would have quoted the lyrics of one of my fav Keane songs! ABSOLUTELY LOVE this Ali! xxxxxxxxxx PS, still waiting on Paypal transfer, grrrrrrrrrr!

      1. You are most welcome! Am SO pleased we got the payment sorted and also that you gave me the opportunity to choose my own fabric, also loved the Martini in linen LOL lining fabric! If I was able to make something as beautiful as this I would be as proud as wee jock proud mc-proud, winner of last year’s most proudest person competition! Thanks so much again! xxxx 😀

  4. Scarily impressive! It’s beautiful too. Know what you mean about Amy Butler – I think some of her fabric designs really come to life in use.
