25 years ago today…

My brother phoned me up earlier to remind me (thanks bro!) that exactly 25 years ago today we were at Wembley Stadium (the old one!) seeing U2 on the Joshua Tree tour. What were you doing 25 years ago I wonder? I find it amazing that I can remember 13 June 1987 so clearly (even down to what we had for our picnic lunch and the clothes I was wearing), but can barely remember what I had for dinner yesterday..

What the 17 year old me (oops, given my age away..) would have made of what I’ve been up to today, I have no idea. ‘Making wallets – really? Why am I bothering to work so hard on these A-Levels then?’ would probably have been the reaction.

In fact, I am up to my eyes in wallets. I have four done/almost done, and 2 still to make.. Then I am taking a break from them for a while…! But I am feeling a minor sense of triumph today because I have finally finally finished tweaking my pattern for a small pocket-sized wallet.

I’ve managed to squeeze in three small credit card pockets and 2 large slip pockets:

Wallet - pockets sorted

and a larger coin section:
Wallet - finalised!

and it all folds up into a 5″ (or thereabouts) square.

I LOVE this fabric collection (Miscellany by Julia Rothman for Cloud 9) – I know my 17 year old self, with my obsession with black, would definitely have approved.. I’m planning to put this one in my Folksy shop, which has been much neglected lately.

  1. Haha, I was there too! Can’t remember the exact date though. What a small world it is!! I remember singing the last song with a crowd of folk all the way home on the tube/train. Amazing night…… Love the wallets too 😉

  2. 25 years ago today I was feeling really annoyed because my friends were going to see U2 and I didn’t get a ticket! Thanks for reminding me Ali! 😉

  3. 25 years ago I was in Brazil… Warm, beautiful Brazil. I’m happy with the life I created and love that I discovered knitting and rediscovered crochet in my journey… I just love it. The wallets are gorgeous! Great work!

  4. Well there you go, you have jogged my memory. I too was there then. And I must agree if I had known then what I know now I would probably have walked out of my A levels and never looked back!

  5. I saw U2 on the same tour, but in New Zealand. At the time I was doing a pattern drafting course, so my younger self might approve of my sewing attempts now. Love the wallet, the fabrics are gorgeous!

  6. I was a wee bit young to see U2 but can confirm that my first gig at 14 (25 years ago) was Then Jericho! They were awsome & I got to touch the lead singer (Mark Shaw’s) Adidas trainer! LOL! xxxx

  7. Glad you finally nailed your pattern 🙂 25 years ago I was in primary school, probably at sports day running across a field in Cannock lol

    1. Katy it’s such a relief to get it finally the way I like it…! You can go away with your talk of primary school… Fancy you growing up in Cannock.. we are both Staffordshire girls then. 🙂

  8. Hahaha, I love your make of what your 17 year old self would think of making wallets…my 17 year old self would have thought my present day self was totally BORING. LOL* So funny how things change! 😉

  9. It’s certainly a lovely wallet!

I saw U2 at Wembley on the same tour you did – can’t remember the exact date but I wonder whether we were at the same concert?!
