Finally finished something..

I’ve been working on this quilted cushion for what seems like forever now – I made the patchwork panel back in mid-March, when I reviewed Love….Quilting, but it took me a while to get round to buying the fabric for the back, and then I had to be brave enough to try an in-seam zip (turned out to be as straightforward as anything..). And then, of course, the garden intervened for a little while. This afternoon I decided I couldn’t take having around 20 unfinished projects lying around for a moment longer – so I decided to have a bit of a break from hefting rocks about & got the sewing machine out. It felt like such a relief to get something off my WIP list.

Patchwork cushion

I think it’s come out rather nicely – I’m particularly pleased with how neat it all is. The fabrics are from La Petite Ecole range from French General. I used a Jelly Roll that I got from the always excellent Hulu Crafts. It’s odd, I really do love these fabrics, but they’re not my usual style at all.. I just can’t resist the lovely muted shades, and the little floral patterns and polka dots are so endearing.

Has anyone else got a project finished this weekend?

  1. Wow, that’s lovely! I’ve never attempted patchwork, as much as I love to look at it, but your cushion is definitely inspiring. Gorgeous.

  2. Lovely work! I find that blue and red often work well together, but your combination is specifically beautiful. I’ve never made anything like a quilt (not even a tiny doll quilt), because I find patchwork very difficult to do and overwhelming with all the color choices. Maybe I should try and start with just 2 or 3 colors.

  3. Well done Ali, you’ve made a great job of the cushion. The design really shows up well in those fabrics and I love the way you’ve photographed it in the sunshine.

  5. Very nice! Fantastic colours…I wish I could quilt; I can see those making a very nice dress for two little girls of my aquaintance. πŸ™‚ Speaking of, I finished a stripy crochet jacket for D last weekend, I must block it and take some pics. Thankfully it’s far too big for her right now! KWYM about having projects lying around. I just can’t resist starting new ones, though.

  6. Oh, this is just beautiful!! I adore the colours! Well done!

I made a coffee sleeve & coaster for a friend, and a little mug rug or a giveaway soon… πŸ™‚

  7. I really like the fabrics in those colours (thinking nice jacket)! Actually finished my first quilt yesterday …………. today’s been a internet searching/blog reading/thinking day!

    1. Shelley I so agree about a jacket. Am keen to make myself a little shell top out of one of the grey fabrics… but don’t often get chance to sew for myself! Your quilt is a stunner, am so impressed by it. x
