The Makings of 2010

Inspired by this wonderful review of the year post over at Attic24, I thought it would be a good idea to have a look at what I’ve made this year and pick out the highlights for me…  I’ve been very selective, just including things that were fun to do in themselves and / or things that I’ve been particularly pleased with.  Here are my choices.

Hand-sewn felt pin cushion – this is probably my favourite of the year. I love it because the finished item absolutely lived up to my idea.

Needle book with flower applique

Needle book with appliqued flowers – I’ve included this one because it’s a reminder to me that it’s ok to do something a bit different (for me) now and again!

Needle book

Blue Sprigged needle book with vintage button – I like the way the colours work together. I love this combination of pale blue and dark red.

Mostly recycled zippered pouch

Zippered pouch using (mostly) recycled fabrics – something I want to do more of in 2011.

My 1st ATC

My 1st Artist Trading Card – using pieced patchwork, applique & embroidery. I had huge fun designing and making this and I’d like to do more in the future.

I loved how this chunky basket turned out – the yarn works perfectly with the pattern. I am also pleased that I managed to meet the scary challenge of writing up a crochet pattern for sale!

Crochet cotton bracelet

This pretty teal bracelet is just about my favourite crocheted thing this year. I love the combination of the cotton thread with that cute button.

Round, Popcorn and Starflower Snowflakes

I’m including these because they remind me that I have done really well with sales this year – very cheering! I think these were my best seller, in real and pattern form.

Granny Square Mug Rugs

Included because I love the zingy colours and I love crochet!

I’d love to read about and see your own favourite creations of 2010. Please feel free to comment and leave a link if you want to show off a photograph or a blog post.

  1. Heh, I have the pincushion’s cousin in white; it has pride of place in my workbox. Just fitted out Big Girl’s work box with needles, thread and binca, and she is most jealous of it (she’s not having pins yet!).

  2. Thank you for a great look-back at all your lovely creations! I don’t think I’ll be doing a post on what I made in 2010 because I haven’t made half as much as I’d have liked. One of my aims for 2011 will be to increase my stitching output! I hope 2011 is all you wish it to be!!

  3. Happy New Year to you!! I love all your projects!!! Those needlebooks are so handy. I recently tried to search your site to find the pattern for the one you photographed in your header, but the search came up empty. Is there a pattern?

  4. Wow some great creations there, I love the zippered pouch. I’ve been meaning to make some with all the fat quarters of fabric i’ve amassed but haven’t had the chance. Maybe this year!

Wishing you a happy and successful 2011.

    1. Thanks Fiona… I love making zippered pouches, but once in a while the zip goes all wrong and I swear I’ll never make one again!

Hope 2011 is a wonderful year for you and for the Sewing Directory. 😀
