I’m making some much needed updates to the Big List of Online UK Fabric Shops… as it is such a big list nowadays, I thought it was worth flagging up the changes in a blog post too – here are the new additions, in alphabetical order:
A long-established Ebay shop (with excellent feedback) which now (2014) has a stand-alone shop. Fabric Frieze stocks an extensive range from fabric studios such as Moda, Robert Kaufman, Riley Blake, Michael Miller, Tilda and Blend. The shop offers free UK delivery on orders over £70, but it is frustrating that it is difficult to find out what the postage costs are for cheaper parcels. You can sign up to be included in a monthly giveaway by registering with their website. The payments options are your PayPal balance, or credit/debit card via PayPal.
Guthrie & Ghani have a great mix of fabrics for dressmakers and quilters alike – the fabrics sold online by the 1/2m (but you can phone if you have specific requirements), and they have a real shop in the Moseley, Birmingham. They also stock knitting yarns, haberdashery, sewing & knitting patterns, purse & bagmaking accessories and more. The online shop could be a little bit more user-friendly, with better search options and more browsability, but their stock is fantastic, and the blog is a great read, so it is well worth paying them a visit. Payment is via PayPal (credit or debit card or PayPal balance), and there is a flat rate delivery charge of £2.90.
Plush Addict started out as a super supplies shop for people wanting to make nappies for their babies, but over the past couple of years (whilst I wasn’t looking!) but has developed into an incredibly well-stocked fabric (quilting cottons, flannel, PUL, fleece, Denim and more!) and haberdashery shop. They have a Plush Points Loyalty scheme, and postage charges are very fair, based on weight and with an option for 1st class, 2nd class or Special Delivery. Orders over £40 are sent free of charge and there is also a free returns service available (very rare, and very welcome).
A very extensive range of more traditional fabrics for the dressmaker and quilter alike, The Remnant House bricks & mortar shop has been a Harrogate institution for more than 50 years. They also have a good range of notions and haberdashery. Online, there is a minimum order of 0.5m, but you can order in any increment above that. There is a flat rate of postage of £4.50 for orders up to £30, and delivery is free to the UK if your order is above £30. Payment is via credit/debit card or by PayPal.

Secret Garden Quilting is well organised and has a really great range of fabrics from Moda, Makower, Lecien, Robert Kaufman and more. I particularly like the good range of FQ bundles, that always offer at least a 10% discount over buying the fat quarters individually or fabrics by the metre. Another good money-saving bonus is that you can choose to have your parcel sent first or second class, with prices starting at £2.95/£1.95.
